Fundraiser

Over the December holidays, the children will be sent back to their families and PE Childline assures that their basic food needs are taken care of with food hampers.

Jessica Foord Foundation and Bobbi Bear

Whilst there are a number of societies that the KZN ladies assist, the principal two are The Jessica Foord Foundation and Bobbi Bear.

In March 2008, Jessica was gang-raped by four men -  the fifth tied up her father and forced him to watch.

The Jessica Foord Foundation was established to ensure that rape victims are treated with dignity whilst awaiting the District Surgeon.  One of the main objectives is to set-up “Trauma Rooms” at every police station in South Africa as, at the moment, victims are left  (sometimes for hours) in the reception of the station.

Bobbi Bear is solely for child rapped victims.  The founder of Bobbi Bear is a very dedicated lady who will, at whatever time of day or night, go alone into the townships to help young children who have been raped.

It should be noted that 38% of reported rape victims are children under the age of three years old.

This year’s primary project is “The Kiddi Pack Project”.
When you give to the Jessica Foord Foundation in the form of projects, money or time, you are helping to change the way rape victims are treated i.e. the first step to become a rape ‘survivor’. You can help them regain something priceless - their dignity and self-esteem.

The Rape Bag will be used to provide immediate assistance to the traumatised child.
The Court Bag will be used when the child is required to attend court and will provide distraction (the child could be at court from early morning to late afternoon).

As Jes has to go through every bag that is donated, in order to make it easier, it is best if the items are kept separate and Jes (and the ladies helping) will pack the bags.

Should you wish to donate certain items in bulk (and not individual bags) you are most welcome - ALL donations are gratefully accepted.
