MISA, the Motor Industry Staff Association, is challenging South Africans to walk or run one kilometre daily during the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, from 25 November to 10 December 2026 wearing at least one of the Union’s gender-based violence awareness wristbands.

Under the banner "1 KM per Day for 16 Days Against GBV", MISA is encouraging its more than 80 000 members in the retail motor industry and the public to take a stand against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). The global theme of the United Nation’s for 2026 is “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.”

MISA encourage participants to purchase our wristband for R10. All the proceeds will be donated to SA Women Fight Back, a national non-profit organisation empowering women and children affected by GBV through education, advocacy and survivor support.

Martlé Keyter, MISA's Chief Executive Officer: Operations, says the initiative aims to transform awareness into meaningful action. "South Africa has lost the war against GBVF.

Women in this country are dying with protection orders in their bags. They do everything the law allows to protect themselves and they are pursued and killed anyway. We cannot return to business as usual. Ending violence requires collective responsibility and action throughout the year.”

Participants can complete one kilometre daily, walk or run the full 16 kilometres at once, or accumulate the distance throughout the campaign.

"Every kilometre represents our refusal to remain silent. Every wristband symbolises solidarity with survivors, while every R10 contribution supports an organisation helping women and children rebuild their lives. Sixteen kilometres. Sixteen days. One united message: No excuses for gender-based violence and femicide,” says Keyter.

To purchase wristbands, contact Vuyokazi Bam, MISA's Media Liaison Assistant, on 073 226 2673 or e-mail [email protected].
