A certificate of service would in general terms, assist you in securing
employment. As such, this document is quite important to have.
Clause 7.5 of the MIBCO Main Collective Agreement in conjunction with Section
42 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 states that the
following must reflect on your certificate of service:
Full names of the employee;
Name and address of the employer;
The nature of employment (Title and Duties);
Date of commencement and termination of
The rate of remuneration at the date of

In a Nutshell: An employer is obliged to provide you with a
certificate of service, and the above is the minimum requirements that the
employer must indicate on same.
